Dwell: God With Us

Each of us longs for the presence of Jesus, whether we can identify it or not. Throughout Scripture, we experience a God who gave everything to fulfill that longing: to be present with and in us.

The Advent season marks the four weeks before Christmas as a season of preparation and anticipation for celebrating the miracle of God present with us through the birth of Jesus. We step more fully into the experience of longing for God and embrace the wonder and mystery of him giving himself again and again to us.

We’ll trace this thread of God’s presence among his people from the Israelite’s tabernacle-tent in the wilderness to the splendor of David and Solomon’s temple. We then turn to the miraculous, spectacular, subversive, and beautiful birth of God into the world in Jesus. The movement of God’s presence then fills and empowers every believer and collectively builds the Church into the body of Christ himself!

God gives his presence to the world most tangibly through the Church. As his body, we are an extension of his love, mercy, grace, truth, and justice to our neighbors, city, and world.

Be a part of completing Compassion Kits for teens both in and aging out of the foster system, and for refugee families from Ukraine that are re-settling in the Portland metro area.

Project 48: Adopt-A-Bag

An average of 160 kids every month come into foster care in Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties. The first 48 hours are a challenging time for foster children and Project 48 mission is to provide them with bags of high-quality goods and necessities within the first hours of coming into care.

Select an Adopt-a-Bag Tree Tag for a specific teen. Purchase desired items and place in a box or bag with teen’s “tag number” from the website.

Bring the box to Mosaic by December 11 (third week of Advent).

Refugee Care Collective: Restart Kits

Refugees arrive to Oregon with few possessions, and have to quickly build their lives again. Restart kits are plastic tubs filled with essential household items, and a complete set is formed by eight unique restart kits – one for each area of the home. The kits are received by newly arriving families and individuals, meeting a tangible need and communicating a message of welcome. It’s a first step in saying, “You are not alone. We are for you. You are welcome here.”

Right now RCC is in need of Bathroom Kits, Kitchen Kit #1, and Twin Bedding Kits for children and adults.

Build a kit as a person, family, Triad or Neighborhood Community and bring it to Mosaic on a Sunday or by appointment with adam@mosaicportland.org
